About Charles Sargent

Charles Sargent of Cordova, New Mexico enjoys taking pictures of New Mexico Churches and Landscapes of the Southwest. His photos have been published in Photographic Magazine.

The picture “God’s Peace at El Santuario”, a heavy snow scene of the church, won Top Honor in the photography category at the Espanola Arts and Crafts Show for 2005. His picture "Black Mesa in Fall" won the same award in 2006 and in 2007 his "Camel Rock" again won the Top Honor in the show.

Sarge won his first camera in junior high school by selling magazines. He has owned different camera systems throughout his life including the Argus C-3 while serving in the Marine Corps and two Minolta systems in the 70's and 80's.

In 2003 he purchased a Nikon F4 second hand and began taking photographs seriously. In 2004 he upgraded to a Nikon F5 and took a course at the local college called "The Art of Seeing" and that is the extent of his formal classroom training.

He began scanning slides on his home computer and used Adobe Photoshop as his editing software. He then began extensive one-on-one training on the computer and Photoshop to increase his expertise in optimizing photographs and fine art printing.

In 2006 he purchased the Nikon D200 and fell in love with the digital darkroom.

The balance of his photographic education has been trial and error and extensive studies of the masters' works. He has purchased many books and magazines to improve his photographic abilities.

His works are sold in a gallery at the El Santuario de Chimayo gift shop. He participates in local arts and crafts fairs during the year.
